European leaders participating in the so-called “will co-ordination” are expected to hold a virtual conference Sunday, ahead of important talks US President Donald Trump will have next week with Ukraine's president, Voldymyr Zelensky.
The coalition, co-led by British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, aims to unite countries to protect a peace agreement in Ukraine.
Topping Sunday's summit agenda is ensuring a concrete pledge by Trump for a security guarantee that would serve as a powerful guarantee in any peacekeeping agreement between Russia and Ukraine.
European leaders have shown optimism following recent signals from the US president on the issue, stressing that the US military power would be an obstacle to any further progress by Vladimir Putin.
Another key point of discussion will be Zelensky's most direct involvement in the talks, as the latest meeting between Trump and Putin in Alaska left him out of the process. In co-ordinated statements, European leaders have stressed that without the role of Ukrainian president, there can be no lasting peace. /Periscopi/
