Shortly after midnight, through its Social Truth platform, Trump wrote: “is midnight!! Billions of dollars on tariffs are now flowing into the United States! ”
The White House said goods from more than 60 countries and the European Union will face 10 per cent or higher tariffs.
The tariffs will also apply to Western Balkan countries, according to these percentages:
Serbia 35 percent, Bosnia and Herzegovina 30 percent, Northern Macedonia 15 percent, Kosovo 10 percent, and Montenegro 10 percent.
Part of the list is Croatia, a member of the European Union, whose products will be taxed by 15 percent during imports to the United States.
The Kosovo government in office decided on August 1st to lift the 10 per cent customs fee on American goods.
Products from the European Union, Japan and South Korea will be taxed by 15 percent, while imports from Taiwan, Vietnam, and Bangladesh will be taxed by 20 percent.
When it comes to the rest of the world, Brazil is facing higher American customs fees worldwide - a 50 - percent fee that applies to most goods.
India too will be affected by a 50 - percent fee that goes into effect on August 27th.
As for China, negotiations are still under way, and both Washington and Beijing have agreed to extend all new tariffs by 12 August.
Mexico has also been given a postponement, as Trump has said it will continue with current rates for another 90 days, thus avoiding threatened growth to 35 percent.
Canada is already facing a 35 per cent fee, which is in force since last Friday, although most goods are excluded under the trade agreement between the US, Mexico and Canada.
For countries like the EU, Japan and South Korea, Trump also expects them to invest hundreds of billions of dollars in the US.
“
He added that the US “is earning hundreds of billions of dollars from tariffs”, but gave a precise figure for revenues, saying “we don't even know the final” regarding tariff rates yet.
Despite uncertainty, the White House is convinced that the beginning of these sweeping tariffs will bring clarity to the way the largest economy in the world will pursue.
However, industry companies and groups warn that new tariffs will seriously harm small American businesses.
Economists also warn that they can spur inflation and burden economic growth in the longer term.
The last wave of tariffs <x0reciproke”, which aims to address trade practices Washington considers unfair, expand the measures Trump has taken since he returned to the presidency.
However, these higher tariffs do not apply to specific imports for specific sectors, such as steel, vehicles, medicines and electronic chips.
Trump said on Wednesday that he plans a 100% fee for semisponsors, although Taipei said the chip-making giant, T SMC, to be excluded from tariffs, as there are factories in the US. /Periscopi/
