Trump ordered the Washington Guard's deployment earlier in August and put local police under federal control to fight what he called a “exit from crime control in capital”.
Just last week, the Pentagon declared that the effective ones involved in the mission in question, which currently account for about 2,000, would not bear arms.
While the presidential administration has applauded the mission, polls show it is not supported by Washington's residents, who are mainly leaning on the Democrats.
In a statement, the Pentagon confirmed that soon the National Guard troops will patrol the streets with weapons of service.
Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser has not commented on the decision. To date, troops had a patrol mission and were not involved in special operations conducted by federal police and agencies.
Speaking from the Ovale Chamber on Friday, Trump said, the <x0 city had returned to hell, while now it's safe”. He also announced that a similar mission could be carried out in Chicago, another democratic city, whose local administration has run into Trump several times. /Periscope/
