Trump: Armenia, Azerbaijan to sign peace accords at the White House

The leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan are expected to sign a US-brokered peace agreement that could end the decades-long conflict.

This is expected to happen on August 8th, during a meeting at the White House, when US President Donald Trump welcomes the leaders of the two countries.

Armenian Prime Minister Nicole Pashinian, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev will also sign agreements with the United States to co-ordinate the economic opportunities in order to fully exploit the potential of the South Caucasus region”, Trump said on the Social Truth platform on August 7th.

Many leaders have tried to end the war without success, so far, thanks to TRUMPISE”, he wrote, adding that it would be “an official peace signing ceremony”.

According to his Media Office, Pashinian is already in Washington, and on August 7th he visited the Bible Museum.

Media service On August 6th, it revealed that Pashinian would visit the United States, where he would hold a bilateral meeting with Trump and a trilateral meeting with Trump and Aliyevin “to promote peace, prosperity and economic co-operation in the region”.

However, until Trump posts on social networks on August 7th, there were no final statements from any of the three governments if a peace agreement was signed.

Economic agreements could pave the way for the reopening of a strategic transportation corridor in the South Caucasus, which has been closed since the early 1990s.

According to American officials, quoted in media reports on condition of anonymity, the agreements would give the United States the right to rent for the development of Zangezuri Corridor and would name it “Trump Road for Peace and International Prosper” (TRIPP).

This corridor would link Azerbaijan with its Nakhcivan region, which is separated from the rest of the country from a 32km stretch of Armenian territory, and would in the future include a railway line, oil and gas pipelines, as well as fiber optic lines, enabling the flow of goods and later even people.

The agreement does not provide for the United States to finance construction of the transit corridor, but calls on private corporations to develop it. It was reached after a visit by US special envoy Steve Whitoff to Baku earlier this year and after continuing talks between the parties. /Periscope
