The spokesman added that Trump has been invited to Russia for a possible second summit.
There was no immediate reaction from Ukraine.
The announcement of the meeting came just hours after Trump had signalled that Ukraine could be forced to give up part of its territory to end the war, which began with its full invasion by Russia in February 2022.
We're talking about a territory that has been fighting for three and a half years, many Russians have died. Many Ukrainians have died.”, Trump said from the White House on Friday.
It's very complicated. We'll get something back, we'll do some trade. There will be several exchanges of territories, to the benefit of both sides.”, he added.
