Russia and the United States have discussed Israel's conquest of the West Coast as a model for ending war in Ukraine, according to the paper. The Times.
According to this scenario, Russia would have military and economic control over occupied Ukraine under its governing body, imitating Israel's de facto rule over Palestinian territory seized by Jordan in 1967.
This medium reports that the idea was launched weeks ago in discussions between Steve Whitoff, President Trump's peace envoy, and his Russian counterparts, according to a source of US National Security Council.
Witkoff, who is also commissioned by Trump with the task of bringing peace to the Middle East, is understood to support the idea, which Americans believe bypasses barriers in the Ukrainian Constitution to give up territory without holding a “general-Ukrainian referendum”.
Ukrainian President Zelensky has refused to give up territory, but the occupation model could be a mechanism to allow a ceasefire after three and a half years of war.
According to the model, Ukraine's borders will not change, just as the borders of the West Coast have remained unchanged for 58 years, only under Israeli control.
The White House was asked to comment.
The “will be as if Israel invades the West Coast”, the source told The Times prior to the Trump summit with President Putin in Alaska on Friday.
With a governor, with an economic situation going to Russia, not Ukraine. But it will still be Ukraine, because... Ukraine will never give up its sovereignty. But the reality is that it will be occupied territory and the model is Palestine”.
The invasion of Israel has been declared illegal by the International Court of Justice, which is not recognised by the US and only partially accepted by Russia.
In March 2022, the court ordered Russia to “immediately complete military operations” in Ukraine, with a vote of 13 pro and two against, where Russian and Chinese judges were against. The order is mandatory for Russia, but the court has no means to implement it.
The United Nations has ordered Israel to complete its conquest, recently in a vote of the general assembly last September by 124 seats with 14 against, with 43 abstentions./Periscopi/
