Protesters in support of the hostages took to the streets of Jerusalem and marched to the residence of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to express their anger at his government's plan to completely conquer Gaza City.
Former soldier, Max Kresch, marched holding a banner that wrote “I refused”.
“We are over 350 soldiers who served during the war and were refusing to continue serving in the political struggle of Netanyah”, the BBC reports.
Protests were held throughout Israel in cities, including Haifa and Tel Aviv.
Israel's decision to expand its war on Gaza ʹ a major escalation in the conflict caused condemnation by the UN and many countries, including United Kingdom, France, Australia, Turkey, Germany, Finland and Canada.
The UN has warned that a full military takeover of control would jeopardise “catastrophic consequences” for Palestinian civilians and Israeli hostages held in Gaza.
The plan, adopted by the Israeli security cabinet, lists five “progression” to end the war: Hamas' disarming, the return of all hostages, the deilitarisation of the Gaza Belt, the takeover of security of the territory, and the creation of “an alternative civil administration that is neither Hamas nor the Palestinian Authority”./Periscopi/
