Witkoff said that in an interview aired yesterday, August 19th, in “Fox News”.
Referring to the acceptance of a partial ceasefire agreement and the release of hostages from Hamas this week, Whitoff reaffirmed Trump's commitment to the release of all hostages.
“Now, (Trump) has been very crucial and clear in his posts in Truth. He wants all hostages back. This is our position,” said Witkoff, referring to a recent post of President Trump, where it said the hostages would be released only after Hamas faces and destroyed.
Trump appears to be on a line with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyah, who is continuing with an expanded military campaign against Hamas and has pledged that Israel remains committed to a full deal that will ensure the release of all hostages and the outcome of the war under Israel's terms.
However, Netanyahu has not effectively rejected the proposal adopted by Hamas this week, suggesting that Jerusalem is keeping its options open.
Witkoff added: “This war must be concluded immediately, 20 hostages must return to their families, and an equal number of Palestinian prisoners must be released. Let's just close this, bring peace and quiet to Gaza's people, and rebuild Gaza as predicted by the president. ”
Witkoff did not speak of the 30 remaining hostages in Gaza, of which 28 have been confirmed dead. Earlier this year, Trump had supported a policy of mass migration from Gaza and a thorough reconstruction of the territory, however, in recent months has distanced from this idea. /Periscopi/
