Serbian list names illegal “” the CEC's decision to not concern

The Serbian list is the largest Serb party in Kosovo enjoying official Belgrade's support.

Serbian List Chairman Zlatko Ellek, at a news conference on August 22nd, said that although the Office for Political Party recommended Certificate, the CEC decided to reject this recommendation.

What happened during the CEC meeting?

During the Central Election Commission meeting on 21 August, members of the Vetevendosje Movement voted against the Serbian List's Certificate for the October 12th local elections. Meanwhile, the Democratic Party of Kosovo, the Democratic League of Kosovo and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo abstained.

For the Certificate of the Serbian List, only the party's member, Gordana Llaban and CEC chairman Kreshnik Radoniqi, voted.

PZAP had overturned a similar CEC decision on parliamentary elections, enabling the Serbian List to participate in the February 9th elections.

The ECZ Political Party Office, which is tasked with considering the application of political parties and their candidates to be certified for participating in the elections, recommended the Serbian List's Certificate.

LVV members in the CEC, Sami Kurteshi and Alban Krasniqi were loud against the Certificate of the Serbian List, arguing there are exhibits that are also part of the Serb parallel structures, but named the party as the long-standing “handover of Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq, in Kosovo.

Kurteshi said that “90 per cent of people who are on the candidate lists of the Serbian List are participating in parallel Serb institutions in Kosovo”.

He rejected Sasa Milosevic's candidacy for mayor of Novoberda, saying he was appointed by the Serbian government to head the municipality of Gjilan, this Serb parallel municipality.

Milosevic was appointed chairman of Gjilan by the Serbian government on February 27th 2020, as the “chairman of the Gnjilan municipality's Acting Organisation”.

But, the government of Serbia, on August 7th, made over 20 cadrovic decisions for the appointment and dismissal of institution officials, among them some who have been at the helm of provisional bodies for municipalities in Kosovo.

She gave no reason for these dismissals, including Sasa Milosheik, Zoran Todiq from Leposaviqi, Novak Zivic in charge of the Pristina municipality, Goran Danchetovic, chairman of the municipality of Obilic, Bozidar Dejanovic from Vita, etc.

Later, incumbent Government spokesman Progress Kryeziu told Radio Free Europe that it is not the first time Kurti discusses the Prattipat on the issue, adding that Kurti's stance and his party, LVV, on the Serbian List is known.

On the list of certified political subjects, published on the CEC Web site, it is not even Aleksandar Arsenijevic's Serb Democracy (Srpska Democratic Party).

Arsenijevic is wanted by Kosovo authorities after police found weapons on his property in the country's north during a June raid.

Kosovo's incumbent Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Svecla, said in June that law and order bodies are in search of Arsenijevic, who is not in Kosovo.

The LVV had also rejected the Serbian List's participation in the February elections, and the CEC had made a decision on non-competitive.

However, following complaints in the highest instance, the Serbian List took part in the elections and won seats in the Kosovo Assembly.

The Serbian list decided to compete in this year's local elections after boycotting past local elections, causing Albanian mayors to take power in the four Serb majority municipalities in the country's north from May 2023.

If certified, the Serbian List is expected to regain all four northern municipalities: Northern Mitrovica, Leposaviq, Zvecan and Zubin Potok.

The Serbian list was in power in the ten majority Serb municipalities in Kosovo until November 2022, when it made a decision to leave the institutions in the north due to a request by the Kosovo government to replace Serbian car plates with those of Kosovo. /Periscope
