Aliu was one of the founding figures of the Vetevendosje Movement, which remained active in the party until the moment he left the government.
He, along with Albin Kurti and Glauk Konjufka, had started political engagement in the KAN organisation, which later converted to Vetevendosje.
In an earlier story on the DPT show in T7, Aliu had remembered the beginning of the idea of self-determination.
“From 2002 was the idea of self-determination. When I was arrested in 1997, I said before the Serbian judge that I want self - determination for my people. This idea was the political foundation, as we were imposed on that of the others: Complete the standards that you can sit at the table with Serbia, and then talk about status, without asking if you want independence, joining Albania or something else”, he had declared.
Ali had also told of personal sacrifices made during the first years of the organization when financial resources and activities were lacking in limited means.
“Most of us also left their jobs to deal with the organization. We had no donations, we were limited, I remember they helped us buy the spray. I was lucky that my wife worked, and I told her that I wanted to engage intensively in the organization. Fortunately, she agreed with me”, confessed to Ali.
His resignation, after the election of the Speaker of the Assembly, is seen as one of the biggest political developments within the Vetevendosje Movement.
