He is a member of the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD), led by Milorad Dodik.
Viskovic is one of the suspects in Bosnia and Herzegovina's prosecution's investigation into the criminal act of assaulting constitutional order.
Dodik, president of the Republika Srpska, as well as Nenad Stevsa, the president of the entity parliament, are accused of the same work.
No reasons have been disclosed why Viskovic resigned, but only was announced a new Republika Srpska government would be elected.
This is the day I've been waiting for him since I was appointed prime minister of the Republika Srpska. This is also my contribution to a broader consensus in Republika Srpska”, Viskovic said at a news conference, following a meeting at the office president's headquarters.
He added that “remains part of the SNSD team”.
Dodik, chairman of the SNSD, announced that Viskovovic will continue his work as director of Republika Srpska Highways.
Viskovic was at the helm of the Republika Srpska government since 2018, while his opposition mandate has often criticised him for the way entity resource management is managed, for his approach to institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Since July 2023, Viskovic has been on the list of sanctions in the United States of America due to threats to the Dayton Peace Accords and violation of Bosnia and Herzegovina's sovereignty.
As the US Treasury Department had then announced, Viskovic is one of the leaders in RS, who holds responsibility “for promoting the adoption of laws in the Republika Srpska People's Assembly, with which the decisions of the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina are declared irresistibly in RS, preventing and thus jeopardising the implementation of the Dayton Agreement”.
These sanctions include banning US entry and freezing property under their jurisdiction.
