The Agency for Civil Protection in Gaza said that at least 17 people were killed Thursday by Israeli air strikes, while the army has intensified shellings in Gaza City.

Among the victims were six civilians waiting to receive humanitarian aid, said the agency's spokesman, Mahmoud Bassal.

The Israeli forces are intensifying the attacks in the Zeitun” area of Gaza City, he said.

The Israeli army has not commented on these claims.

For the fourth day in a row, the area has been hit by the army, causing casualties and injuries. Many people cannot leave the area because of fighting”, Bassal stressed.

A day earlier, the Israeli Army leader approved the new plan for operations in the Gaza Strip, aimed at releasing all hostages and defeating Hamas the Palestinian group declared a terrorist organisation by the United States and the European Union.

The Israeli Army has said it is aimed at taking full control of Gaza City and refugee camps in the vicinity. These are some of the most populated areas in Palestinian territory, where there are major disasters as a result of the war that started over 22 months ago.

The war began on October 7, 2023, after Hamas attacked the south of Israel, killing about 1,200 people and kidnapping another 251.

Israeli offensive has killed more than 61,000 Palestinians, according to the Hamas-controlled Ministry of Health, figure that the UN considers reliable. / REL
