Russian President Vladimir Putin praised <x0nergy” administration's efforts to stop the war in Ukraine and hinted that Moscow and Washington could reach an agreement on nuclear arms control during their summit in Alaska on Friday.

Before travelling to Alaska to meet with US President Putin chaired a meeting Thursday with senior Russian officials to inform them of the current state of negotiations with the US for Ukraine.

The current American administration... is doing, in my opinion, a lot of vigorous and sincere efforts to stop hostilities, stop the crisis, and reach agreements that are of interest to all parties involved in this conflict”, Putin said, CNN.

In his short speech, Putin said the US summit aims to create long-term conditions for peace between our countries, as well as in Europe and the world as a whole”.

He suggested that this broader peace could be achieved if, in the next “x1> of discussions with the US, “achieve agreements in the area of control over the offensive strategic weapons”, referring to nuclear weapons.

The US and Russia agreed to limit their nuclear weapons arsenals under the new START treaty, which went into effect in 2011. Under the deal, the two countries had seven years to meet restrictions on the number of nuclear weapons located in the interccstinal range they could have. However, the treaty will expire in February 2026./Periscopi/
