With fighter planes, a red carpet and a hopeful slogan é “in pursuit of peace” attached to the wall, President Donald Trump hosted Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin for a summit in Alaska on Friday, whose results remained completely unclear after it ended unexpectedly.

After the meeting for nearly three hours, the two men went out to announce progress. But they came out of their planned press conference without explaining exactly what they had accomplished.

One thing was clear: No deal was reached. And the truce Trump said he wanted to implement when the summit was over was far away to become reality, as he increasingly put the burden on Ukrainian President Wolfymyr Zelensky to make a “deal, writes CNN, broadcast the Express.

“There were many, many points that we agreed on most of them, I would say”, Trump said at the press conference, speaking after Putin.

“Some major points that we haven't achieved yet, but we've made some advances”.

“There is no agreement until there is a deal,” said Trump.

He and Putin left the scene without answering questions.

There was a vague end to a clear summit that despite all his strangers it seemed to have firmly welcomed Putin back into diplomatic ranks.

Despite all the pomp and protocol, however, the indicators of how difficult Trump's task will be were evident since the meeting began.

Just as the presidents were greeting each other on the Elmandorf Air Base runway, alarms were given in Ukraine for the fears and Russian planes coming up with a sign of Putin's intention to continue his war, even though Trump was respectfully overreacting on American soil.

Here are some of the main points from Friday's summit in Anchorage:

Progress, but Not a Deal

Both Trump and Putin offered a vague description of a meeting that lasted for hours.

“We had an extremely productive meeting and agreed to multiple points”, Trump told reporters. There's only a few left. Some are not that important. One is perhaps more important, but we have a very good opportunity to achieve it. We didn't, but we have a very good chance of reaching”.

In an interview immediately after the summit, Trump was asked by Fox Night's Sean Hannity about territorial concessions that would give Russia land he had not had before and about possible US security guarantees for Ukraine.

Well, I think these are the points that we negotiated and these are points that we've mostly agreed on”, Trump said without giving details.

He stressed that Ukraine “should agree to”. Asked what his advice was for Zelensky, Trump replied: “We should make a deal”.

On the eve of the talks, it was always clearer what an unsuccessful outcome would look like than a successful one. Trump had pledged to leave “if he didn't like what Putin was saying, he threatened to turn the joint press conference into a solo show and said the consequences of the “would come to Moscow if the war did not end.

But as he traveled to Anchorage, Trump said he did not know what a success would look like, suggesting he would recognize him when he saw him.

It turned out that success was as difficult to determine after the summit as it was at the beginning.

Trump says he will be at possible Putin-Zelensky meeting

In his interview for Fox, Trump said both Putin and Zelensky want him at a possible second meeting, which he had said before the summit that it would be his final goal.

They both want me there and I'll be there”, Trump said.

Trump said nothing about the prospect of a trilateral meeting at the press conference, only to imply that he would call the various “people that I think are appropriate” including Zelensky to update them on the talks.

But the only upcoming meeting mentioned during Trump's joint presentation and Putin was a possible continuation with the Russian leader.

We'll talk to you very soon and maybe we'll see you again very soon”, Trump said.

“The next time in Moscow”, Putin responded to a suggestion that appears to exclude Zelensky from the discussion.

Putin returns from the cold

Shortly after his arrival in the U.S., Putin's smile, looking out of the window of Trump's limo, said everything: after years of Western isolation, he had become the most powerful nation on earth.

Ten years had passed since Putin was last in America and others since he was welcomed into the country for a large presidential summit. After conquering Ukraine in 2022, the Russian leader was expelled from many leaders, unwanted in most Western countries, and even threatened with an arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court. (Alska was a desirable place for the summit, in part, because the US is not a member of this court.

But Putin's isolation ended when his plane landed in Anchorage. With a red carpet reception, a flight of fighter planes and a applause from the American president himself, the message from Trump was clear: Putin was back from the cold. Their smiling greeting was hailed on Russian state television as a “historic handshake”.

Although Putin is still not welcome in many European countries, Trump's decision to wait for him as president of the world's largest economy and the most powerful army undermines efforts for diplomatic isolation more than any other leader could do.

This became even clearer when Putin boarded the Trump armoured vehicle an unusual gesture that seemed to represent the Russian leader's immediate return to global diplomacy. Even without any great progress, it was a victory for him.

The helpers were added to what had been described as a face - to - face meeting

The surprise came just as Trump was going down: He would no longer meet Putin face - to - face with only their translators present. Instead, two aides would join each leader for their bilateral talks.

This was different from earlier this week, when the White House said the summit would include a head-to-head component. An American official said it was a late change, but he offered no explanation why the format changed.

Trump's face-to-face meetings with Putin during his first term were covered with a scale of mystery. With only one translator inside the room, it was often not clear exactly what was discussed. Helpers sometimes found it difficult to determine whether the two men had reached any agreement. After such a meeting in Germany, Trump urged his translators to remove his notes.

The addition of two aides to Friday's session -- UN Secretary of State Marco Rubio and US special envoy Steve Whitoff -- could allow for greater clarity in the coming days, especially if Russia offers a description of events ranging from the US perspective.

However, there was a moment that only Trump and Putin will be able to confess: their brief trip with the presidential limo from the airport track to the room where the meeting took place. Nobody else was in the car with them but Secret Service agents, no counselor or translator.

This leaves the contents of their brief talk known only to them.
