Kosovo's Economic Oda with the Kosovo Producers' Association refocuss demand for mandatory suspension of exit to free energy market
Pristina, August 27, 2025
Kosovo's Economic Oda, together with the Association of Producers in its context, expresses deep concern over recent months' electricity bills, which are turning into an unaffordable burden for the production sector.
Since the first day, Kosovo's Oda Economics, together with its Producing Association, has raised the voice publicly and institutionally that the mandatory release of producers on the free market will result at price unaffordable for businesses. Today, unfortunately, what we've been warning about is proven.
According to official data:
Producer businesses forced to supply on free market paid 162 $ /MWh in June 2025 and 203 $ /MWh in July 2025.
In the same period, consumers in regulated supplies paid only 6550 $/MWh.
This unwarranted distinction, more than 3 times higher for producers, has brought serious consequences for the competitiveness of our factories and has placed Kosovo producers in uneven positions in relation to other internal sectors and regional competitors.
At the height of summer, when prices are normally expected, producers' bills have risen to record levels. This raises the alarm that in the winter period, when consumption doubles, prices can exceed $300 /MWh, causing irreparable consequences like:
The factory's closures,
Lost thousands of jobs,
Declining local production and increasing dependence on imports.
For these reasons, Kosovo's Economic Oda with its Association of Kosovo Producers earnestly refocus the demand for the immediate suspension of mandatory exits to the free market. This is the only right and necessary step to protect local production and avoid an economic crisis caused by energy bills.
Electricity is not just a market product, it is the fundamental factor for the survival of local industry. Without quick interference, the country's productive base and economic future are seriously endangered.
