His grandson, Gzim Cecaj, through a post on the social Facebook network has described this act as a barbarous act and severe blow to the historical memory and dignity of Albanians.
This action represents a serious blow to historical memory, the dignity of the Albanian community and the values of democratic co-existence. Isuf Celaj was neither a criminal nor an image that promotes ethnic division. Rather, he was a advocate of the rights of Albanians in Montenegro, a voice of reason and justice, which in difficult times has shown courage and humanity, protecting citizens of other ethnicities from injustice”, he wrote.
According to him, the extent of his monument is a barbarous act, which speaks of a dangerous and anti-democratic approach by Montenegrin authorities to the history and contribution of Albanians to this region”.
Celaj has called on international institutions to condemn this act.
“Call on international institutions, human rights organisations and public opinion to condemn this act and support our efforts for justice and respect for our history. Isuf Celay lives in our memory. The memorial may be removed, but his ideal doesn't die down”, he wrote. /Periscope.
