He has provided details on the first defence framework agreement between Kosovo and the US, while also talking about his US visits.
Macedonia explained the benefits that come to Kosovo from signing bilateral agreements, which, according to him, deepen and enhance co-operation between the two countries in the field of defence and security.
“We have a deepening and expanding report with the US, and especially in the areas of defence and security. Since I took office as minister two years ago, I have had three visits to the Department of Defense. During the last visit, together with the deputy secretary of defence, we have agreed on the path to co-operation between our countries in the field of defence. In all, we have agreed on several points where we will focus and work together on their implementation, that Kosovo will be self-resistant in terms of defence, and in the future have the capacity to protect the territory and life of its citizens”.
“We agree on joint training and training, as well as participation in missions in foreign countries, like what we did in Kuwait. We also have two separate points: the defence industry and an increase in co-operation in preparing society to respond and support security institutions to maintain stability in the event of war. We will have a state-owned military factory, where we have recently had a meeting in Pristina to sync American military investors with our companies, where besides the public sector, we are working with the US private sector, which is one of the prime minister's priorities and for me personally, to focus this industry not only for the country, but also for the country's” export, Macedonia said.
He added that co-operation with the Allies is powerful, having a NATO advisory team, led by a German general, who supports Kosovo's Ministry and Security Force for objectives and approach to NATO.
Of course, the US has deployed troops in Kosovo, outside KFOR's mandate, aimed at bilate co-operation and support in training. The U.S. Army also supports us with donations, where we have built one of the best light-gun range polygons, which cost 2m euros. Also, we have accepted a container of armoured vehicles, which were bought with a symbolic sum of”, the minister said.
As for progress towards NATO membership, Macedonia said: “we are making efforts for full membership in NATO. Kosovo has built military capacities from the start, and NATO has been the one that has supported the establishment of these capacities. ”
Asked by the moderator for a fixed date when Kosovo can enter NATO, he said: “we have a diplomatic issue, because four countries have not yet recognised Kosovo. We hope that these countries will soon realise that the state of Kosovo is a reality, while the Kosovo Army is a professional army, willing to contribute together with their armies, wherever for world peace and security”. /Telegraphy. com
