Parliament Speaker Africa Gashi officially signed the decision to announce local elections, which will be held on October 19th this year.
The decision has been sent to competent bodies for the organisation and implementation of elections, while the Parliament during this period will continue regular administrative functioning, but no plenary sessions will be held in order to avoid misusing the parliament speaker for electoral purposes.
Gashi, in his letter after the election declaration, appealed the political forces, candidates and relevant structures to show high level of political culture.
In local elections, citizens through two electoral districts in 80 local self-government units and the City of Skopje will choose mayors and councils that will lead with municipalities in the next four years.
After the election declaration, the State Election Commission must hold the session in which the calendar of all electoral deadlines and actions will be published, but also the obligations of participants in elections, media and electoral bodies will be published.
Electoral List Control begins 15 days after the election proclamation and lasts a total of 20 days. Citizens can then verify their data and if there are irregularities to demand change. The election campaign begins on September 30th and will last 20 days. For implementation of the entire election process, the state has earmarked around 10m euros. Meanwhile, by the end of the month, 21,000 managers will be selected who will be engaged in election councils at about 3,500 locations.
