Young people from over 146 lands listened closely to his messages, where he encouraged them to build a better world.
My prayer to you is that you can continue with faith, joy and courage,” Pope Leon said during his speech to the crowd.
He added that “Seek justice to build a more human world. Serve the poor and thus bear witness to the good that we would always like to receive from our neighbors. ”
Despite temperatures reaching about 100 degrees Fahrenheit [30 ° C], many young people stayed all day in the field to see the Pope. Organisers used water balls to help participants cope with the heat.
The event is part of the Catholic Holy Year's activities, which by the end of 2024 has attracted some 17 million pilgrims to Rome. Pope Leon, the first US-born, was elected 8 May as the successor of Pope Francisescu./Periscopi/
