Full response:
The Democratic League of Kosovo welcomes today's decision by the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Kosovo, which stated the unconstitutionality of efforts to impose secret voting procedures during the Parliament's constitutional hearing.
With this bias, the Court reaffirmed that the leader of the constitutional hearing cannot operate outside clear constitutional definitions and cannot invent procedures that undermine democratic order and legitimacy. The court again clarified that the election of the Speaker and Vice Presidents of the Parliament should be carried out strictly according to the Constitution and Labour Rule through open voting, up to three times an attempt at a candidate, and within the 30-day constitutional deadline.
This decision represents a great victory for democracy, legality and the integrity of our institutions. It confirms the LDK's stance, which has since begun, insisted that the actions of the Speaker of the Parliament and the Vetevendosje Movement! There were flagrant violations of the Constitution and attempts to block the functioning of institutions.
The LDK has always defended the principle that constitutional order is invulnerable. No political will can stand above the supremeity of the Constitution.
The tribunal's current decision is not only the victory of the LDK, but the victory of the Republic of Kosovo and of all citizens who want functional institutions, raised on legitimacy, transparency and democratic standards.
We call on all political forces to respect this act as a whole. The Assembly must continue immediately, in accordance with the Constitution, with the election of its leadership through open voting. Any further obstacle would be not only unconstitutional but also irresponsible to citizens and their democratic will.
The LDK will remain committed to its role as a advocate of legitimacy, democracy and Euro-Atlantic values. The Republic of Kosovo deserves strong institutions, born of the Constitution and serving only citizens.
