Former head of British intelligence: If Trump and Putin are heard today, very bad news for Ukraine

Former head of British intelligence service MI6, Sir John Sabers, has commented on the potential importance and risks of a peace deal that could emerge from today's meeting in Alaska, warning that such development could represent bad news for Ukraine. In an interview for Sky News, Sabers [...]
In an interview for Sky News, Sabers stressed that he is careful about the expectations for the outcome of this meeting and expressed deep concern about the impact a sudden or uncoordinated agreement may have on Ukraine's future.
I do not expect a clear and sustainable plan for peace to emerge from this meeting,” said Samers. “But if the opposite happens ) if such an agreement is reached, it would constitute a very adverse development for Ukraine. If Russian President Vladimir Putin manages to position Donald Trump who can return to power near the Kremlin's vision of ending the war, then there is real danger that Ukraine is forced to accept conditions dictated by Moscow”, he added, Skynews.
According to Sutters, a similar agreement would not bring about a just and lasting peace, but it would be more of an implant on the part of Russia, which would jeopardise Ukraine's sovereignty and independent future. He warned that a hasty deal, reached without the full involvement and consensus of Kiev and Western allies, could actually mark a strategic defeat for Ukraine and a popular victory for the Kremlin.
Despite its open scepticism towards Putin's goals, however, Sabers did not fully rule out the possibility that the meeting in Alaska could pose a first step towards a broader diplomatic process.
Any sincere attempt to end the war, I think, is welcome. While I personally remain very skeptical of Putin's motives and seriousness, there is a small window of opportunity for this meeting to serve as the beginning of a new path to peace,” he declared.
In the end, the former MI6 leader stressed that the international community must remain vigilant and united in its stance, to ensure that any solution to the conflict is fair and to respect Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereign rights. /Periscope
