The Palestinian terrorist group said in a statement Saturday that its “armed resistance... cannot be abandoned except through the complete restoration of our national rights, primarily among them the creation of an independent and fully sovereign Palestinian state with the capital of Jerusalem”.
This comes after several Arab states called on Hamas to break down and disarm amid the global push for a Palestinian state and end the war in Gaza. The declaration was also signed by all 27 European Union states, as well as 17 other countries, including Britain.
The United Kingdom, France and Canada have pledged to recognise Palestine at the United Nations General Assembly in September. British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said this step would be taken next month if Israel does not meet a series of conditions, including the outcome of the dire “ ” situation in Gaza, reports “The Telegraph”, broadcast Periscope.
But he was criticised for failing to impose any conditions on Hamas, including the release of the remaining 50 hostages.
Starmer was also warned Saturday that recognising a Palestinian state would “debilise” international legal order.
In a new legal opinion seen by the “The Telegraph” and forwarded to the British prime minister, his attorney general, Lord Herrer and dozens of influential Labusist Party deputies, warned that the recognition plan “would create a problematic precedent and could ultimately challenge and destabilise an international system based on a common understanding of what it means to be a” state.
While Hamas earlier called for a Palestinian state, he envisions an Islamic state in all of today's Israel, which he does not know. It does not support a solution of two states, which proposes the creation of two states on the territory of the former Mandaised Patlestina.
The indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel aimed at securing a 60-day ceasefire in the Gaza War and an agreement on the release of hostages ended without a solution last week. /Periscope/
