Smith was named special prosecutor in 2022 to investigate the alleged misuse of documents classified by Trump and his alleged attempt to intervene in the 2020 elections, Express reports, broadcast. Periscope.
American media have reported Saturday that OSC is investigating Jack Smith for alleged violations of the Hatch Act, a law banning political activities by government officials.
This comes after Tom Cotton, a Republican senator from Arkansas, called on the OSC to investigate Smith for <x0-second unprecedented interventions in the 2024” elections.
Smith was appointed by former General Prosecutor Merrick Garland in November 2022 to oversee federal investigations into Trump.
The two cases he investigated led to the raising of criminal charges against the president, who was acquitted and demanded to name the prosecution as politically motivated. The cases were closed later following Trump's victory in the November 2024 presidential elections, as Justice Department regulations prohibit prosecution of a incumbent president.
