The representative of the Kosovo Democratic Institute (KDI), Eugen Cakoli, has reacted following the Central Election Commission's decision not to certified the Serbian List for local elections.
He has called this decision “a political act”, stressing that the CEC has surpassed its competencies and entered the field that belongs to justice and security institutions.
Today's decision not to certified the Serbian List is nothing more than a political act that will be dropped by PZAP,” wrote Calcoli.
According to him, the law is clear and leaves no room for political interpretations: “Every registered party is automatically certified unless it meets administrative requirements. ”
Cakolli added that restrictions on individual candidates can only apply if there is “judicial inadequacy, including criminal sentences with effective prison in the past three years. ”
According to him, as long as there is no decision declaring a subject as a terrorist organisation, it must be addressed according to equal legal standards.
In the end, Cakolli warned of the danger of politicising the election process, stressing that “if the CEC continues to be exploited as political battlefields, it only hurts Kosovo, violating the credibility of the elections and giving weapons to Belgrade propaganda in the international arena. ”
