For this discovery several days ago, incumbent Culture Minister Hajrllah Ceku announced that “ekipi of archaeologists identified the” inscription until he was credited with how never before Sãoka had this dedication to such archaeological discoveries.
The team of archaeologists has identified a second inscription to Emperor Justinian and his wife, Theodore. The first inscription mentioned the founding of the town of Lustiniana Secuda as the town of Dardan. The second one shows the construction of the episcopal basy. These are the only known dedications of Justinian, emperor of origin from this region. The preservation and protection of archaeological heritage has never been treated that seriousness. Archaeological research at the Ulpiana of Dresnik is currently continuing on to public property, which was exhumated over the past year”.
Ceku said “is being worked with intensity at archaeological sites, conservation and management plans, promotion of professional capacities through international partnerships, studies and publication”.
“Archaeology continues to reveal our history. We continue with commitment to its research and protection”.
Meanwhile, incumbent Finance Minister Hekuran Murati praised his co-party for this discovery as the main meritor and brought charges to past powers that they had done work on the issue.
The discovery of our roots through archaeological excavations was almost completely forgotten during past governments. But all of this has changed dramatically in the past four years. Hajrlla Ceku and the team have done fantastic work with new discoveries in Ulpiana and in other areas”. ./Periscopi/
In a modern post, however, the EU Office in Kosovo found that it was the European Archaeological Mission in Kosovo with the support of the European Union that unveiled this important inscription.
The EU-backed European Archaeological Mission to Kosovo has made another important discovery: an inscription linking Ulpiana with Justiniana Sechunda. This second inscription, dedicated to Emperor Justinian and Empress Theodora, marks the construction of the Episcopal basy. Along with the first inscription, which announced the founding of Usiniana Sechunda as the City of Dardania, these are the only dedications known to Justinian in his eastern region”, said a report by the EU Office.
During her visit to the scene, Eva Palatova, Kosovo's Chief of the EU Office Task Agent, praised Professor Christophe J. Goddard and his team for continuous work and this extraordinary discovery, which, according to her, deepens our understanding of our common European past.
The European Union is proud to support Kosovo in its cultural heritage protection and study”.
