Dodik no longer president of Republika Srpska

Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik has officially completed the mandate, after the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina rejected his lawyer's complaint to Bosnia and Herzegovina's Central Election Commission decision, with which his mandate for the post is denied. The Court's decision is final, according to this [...] announcement.

The Court's ruling is final, according to this judicial institution's announcement on August 18th.

According to Bosnia and Herzegovina Election Law, The CEC must announce early elections for the president of Republika Srpska, which must be held within 90 days.

The mandate of president-elect in these elections will last until general elections, scheduled for October of next year, follows Periscope.

Earlier, Bosnia and Herzegovina's CEC made the decision to lift Dodik's mandate after the country's Court, in early August, said it has been sentenced to a year in prison and six years to ban the exercise of public functions in Bosnia and Herzegovina due to disrespecting senior international representative's decisions.

In the complaint, which has had free Radio Europe access, Dodik's legal team opposes the reform implementation of the mandate's completion, as the completion date has been set June 12th, while the decision on the end of the mandate has been taken on August 6th.

Voter turnout of CEC member Vanja Bjelica Prutina is also opposed to the outcome of Dodik's mandate, since it is in a civil court process with him.

On the basis of her slander indictment, a civil procedure is under way near the Foundation Court in Sokolac.

In October 2024, the judge has made a first - degree decision with which he rejected the indictment, but Vanja Bllica Prutina has filed a complaint against that decision.

Dodik has rejected both the final act of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Court and the CEC ruling, warning that a referendum in Republika Srpska will be held in late September.

Dodik's attorneys team has also asked the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina for a temporary measure to prevent the execution of the trial until the final verdict of this court, although Dodik, publicly, does not recognise this court.

By Dodik's legal team, they have said earlier that presenting to the Constitutional Court is a prerequisite that then address the European Court for Human Rights in Strasbourg.

According to the final act of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dodik has been convicted of signing the laws, which were earlier abolished by the high representative, Christian Schmidt, who has preceded failing to implement the decisions of the Constitutional Court and the Office of the High Representative on the territory of Republika Srpska.

Dodik's lawyer team has asked the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina for one year's jail sentence to be replaced by fines -- an opportunity which envisions the Criminal Code of this country and the court has accepted that request.

Thus, Dodik will pay about 36,500 marks (more than 18,000 euros) per year, 100 euro marks (50 euros) per day of prison, respectively. /REL/
