Floods are the result of heavy rainfall, which has caused major damage to infrastructure, agriculture and whole communities, sends back the telegraph.
The prime minister has called for emergency national and international assistance, warning that the situation could deteriorate further in the days ahead.
He has stressed that the government's priority is now to save human lives, provide food aid and shelter for the affected, as well as efforts to recover and rebuild destroyed areas.
