Developments in The Hague: American officials expected to be present in courtroom

The Special Court in The Hague is entering a new phase on September 15th, when the defence of former President Hashim Thaci is expected to begin with presenting her evidence and witnesses. But this phase will have a very special element: direct presence of representatives of the United States government is expected [...]

On August 18th, Thaci's defence team received US approval for testimony from the coded witness “1 DW-003” A figure still kept anonymous to the public, but known for the jury. It doesn't end here: Americans have put a long list of conditions on how this person will testify.
By document attorney Luka Misetic, U.S.A. has limited the area of questions that can be asked as witnesses, have allowed the refusal of answers for confidential reasons, and have sought to be present themselves during questioning.
At the same time, Thaci's defence has confirmed that it is awaiting approval for another four witnesses. Green light from Americans has already been given to W04174, while 1DW-007 and 1DW-008 discussions are continuing. The approval of 1DW-010 remains blocked.
These developments underline the crucial role of the US in The Hague process, not only as observers from abroad, but already as guarantors of the conditions over which key witnesses will speak. A reality that gives additional guarantees to the process. /Periscopi/
