After much criticism of the decision, Z. RRE comes out with a clarification, there's a call for businesses

The Energy Regulatory Office (ZRRE) through a communique to the media explains the public opinion that the process of liberalising the electricity market is a legal obligation, defined by the laws adopted by the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo in 2016. The clarification is said at the time, the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo in [...]
The clarification reportedly says that at the time, the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo in energy sector laws has transposed European directives for energy, determining that the liberalisation of the electricity market must be made. So the process of deregulation and liberalisation of the electricity market in energy sector laws is driven by contractual obligations the Republic of Kosovo has as a signatory side of the Energy Community Treaty.
“Should be stressed that by 2017, Z The RRE has undertaken all legal and regulatory actions for creating conditions for liberalising the electricity market, and in its operation in 2017 has begun the process of deregulation and liberalisation of the energy market, with industrial consumers being released to market”, they reportedly.
In addition, further implementation of the energy market liberalisation process due to extraordinary circumstances has reportedly been delayed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and the international energy crisis.
“After this, Z The RRE has decided since June 1st 2025 to continue implementing the liberalisation of the electricity market, such as the legal and good obligation of bottom consumers. It should be noted that liberalising the electricity market is important not only for connecting with European directives, but also because it creates competition in a market that has so far operated as monopoli8x1>, further highlighted in the communique.
It also becomes known that Z. RRE has a license of 23 companies for power supply activity.
There are 23 companies licensed for electricity supply, of which 7 suppliers are active, which have signed contracts with consumers”, the report follows.
Further, Z. The RRE has clarified public opinion that 9,963 measuring points of economic companies meet the legal criteria for appearing on the open electricity market, where they are:
· 9,212 measures (92%) are being supplied with commercial contracts;
Uh 751 measuring points (.8%) are still without suppliers.
It should be noted that even these measures that have been left without suppliers have been supplied with electricity since June 1, 2025, and that from that period they have been able to choose the power supply and sign the” contract, explains Z. RRE.
The communique says that “to facilitate the transition of consumers meeting the criteria to go out on the open market, Z. THREE under the legal provisions of the Law on Electric Energy, has designated the Kosovo Energy Corporation (KEK) as the Last possible provider (FMF), and these consumers, who by June 1st 2025 had not yet bound commercial contracts, have been supplied via the FMF for a sixty-60) daily period of”.
It should also be announced that under the legal provisions of the Law on Electric Energy, consumers who fail to enter agreement with one of the licensed suppliers, the system operator is obliged to cut power supplies for them.
“Z The RRE will continue monitoring the process and encourages all consumers meeting the criteria to go out on the open market, which have not yet signed commercial contracts, as soon as they can contract with one of the licensed suppliers, to ensure sustainable supply”, Z notes. RRE.
The clarification reportedly remains committed to implementing this reform transparently, fairly and in line with legislation in power and European standards. /Periscope/
