In a proposal for IndexOnline, AKK chairman Sahan Ibrahimi says there are already confirmed information that the European Commission has finally rejected the application submitted by the MAPL.
According to him, this was done because the document has not met the criteria and standards required by the European Union, the IndexOnline writes.
Ibrahimi claims that as a result of this failure, Kosovo municipalities will remain without support in considerable funds, losing up to 12m euros for the scheme of the Performance Grant, means dedicated to Kosovo municipalities and citizens.
This is a very disturbing signal. The municipalities are being deprived of vital means due to the lack of preparation and professionalism at the central level. The European Commission's refusal is not only a financial loss, but also a serious warning about how central governance is managing reports with international donors,” said Saban Ibrahimi
He added that the AKK has repeatedly requested clarification from the MAPL regarding this situation, but that no official response has been given so far.
This lack of transparency leaves local governance in the dark over a matter of major consequences for municipalities.
We seek immediate accountability, full transparency and urgent review of how the interests of municipalities are handled in relation to the EU and other donors. The municipalities should not remain hostage to institutional irresponsibilities” Ibrahim added.
