Among them are the major parliamentary parties, which have sought the Certificate of candidates to compete in almost all municipalities of the Republic of Kosovo.
CEC spokesman Valmir Elezi has indicated to Kosovo that the CEC is continuing the certificate process, and this week it is expected that this institution will decide on the rest, which in fact constitute the largest number of candidates, broadcast Periscopi.
“The CEC has not yet reviewed 46 political subjects, of which 33 political parties, two coalitions, a civic initiative and eight independent candidates. After accepting these applications, legal steps have been taken in co-operation with various state institutions to verify the adaptability of the candidates. After this legal obligation is met, the Office for Recording, Certificate and Financial Control of Political Subjects will prepare recommendations and submit to CEC meetings and CEC members will make decisions regarding these applications”, Elez said.
The CEC has managed to certified 58 political subjects, while 2 civic initiatives have been rejected. According to CEC data, the number of candidates that have so far been certified and will be part of the election race is over 500.
Out of 104 applicant subjects, the CEC has so far certified 58 political subjects, of which are 31 civic initiatives and 27 independent candidates. The total number of candidates, representing these political subjects, is 510 of whom run 34 for mayors and 476 for members of municipal municipalities. From the up-to-date reviews of the CEC, no two civic initiatives have been certified, due to remarks given at the CEC public meeting”, Elez added.
According to Article 30 of the Law for General Elections, a person cannot be certified as a candidate if he or she is a official with special status on the basis of the law in force for public officials, foreign service member and diplomatic representative, leader or member of the CEC and the Municipal Election Commission, official of The PZAP, through the court's ruling, including PZAP's decision, has been denied the right to be a candidate, has been sentenced in the last three years to a formal criminal offense, with one or more years in effective prison, failed to pay the fine imposed by PZAP, or the CEC has failed to abide by any PZAP order.
The Civic Initiative “Pristina's license” did not receive sufficient votes due to remarks by the Democratic League of Kosovo that it resembles its name, while “Movement for the Albanian Union” was rejected due to spelling error, which according to the CEC should be written “Albanians”.
Local elections in Kosovo are held on 12 October.
