These commitments included the lack of role for Hamas in a Palestinian government, the deilitarisation of Gaza and holding elections, according to him, writes Euronews.
“A two-state solution is humanity's best hope to break the cycle of violence in the Middle East and end conflict, suffering and hunger in Gaza”, Albanese said.
The situation in Gaza has gone beyond the worst fears of the world”, he added.
The Israeli government continues to challenge international law and deny sufficient help, food and water to desperate people, including children. ”
Otherwise, Albanese's announcement comes after weeks of pressure from his Cabinet and many Australians to recognise a Palestinian state, as well as increased criticism from officials of his government for suffering in Gaza, something he called a “humanitarian disaster”.
Australia's government has also criticised last days' announced plans by Netanyah for a new sweeping military offensive in Gaza. /Periscopi/
