Amnesty accuses Israel of deliberately causing hunger in Gaza

The human rights group Amnesty International accused Israel of applying “a deliberate policy” to cause hunger in Gaza, while the United Nations and aid groups have warned of the risk of famine in this Palestinian territory. Israel, which has limited its entry into the Gaza Strip, is constantly [...]

Israel, which has limited its entry into the Gaza Strip, has consistently denied allegations that deliberately it is causing hunger during the 22-month war against Hamas ʹthe Palestinian group declared a terrorist organisation by the United States and the European Union.

In a report quoting evidence from displaced Palestinians and medical staff who have treated malnourished children, Amnesty International stressed that “Israel is conducting a deliberate hunger campaign at the Gaza Strip occupied”.

Amnesty International accused Israel of the systematic destruction of health, welfare and social structure of Palestinian life”.

This is the deliberate result of the plans and policies Israel has drafted and implemented over the past 22 months, to deliberately cause the Palestinians in Gaza living conditions, which are designed to bring about their physical destruction, which is part of Israel's ongoing genocide of Palestinians in Gaza”, Amnesty International said.

The report is based on interviews conducted in recent weeks with 19 displaced Palestinians who are sheltered in improvised camps, but also with two health workers in hospitals in Gaza City.

In a report released last week, the COAGT of the Israeli Defence Ministry ʹ body that oversees civil affairs in Palestinian territories dismissed allegations of malnutrition in Gaza and also rejected figures published by the Health Ministry in Hamas-led Gaza.

In April, Amnesty International accused Israel of committing “genocide against Palestinians, forcibly moving Palestinians to Gaza and creating a humanitarian disaster on the besieged territory, the charge Israel dismissed, calling them “lies against”.

The war began on October 7, 2023, after Hamas attacked the south of Israel, killing about 1,200 people and kidnapping another 251.

Israeli offensive has killed more than 61,000 Palestinians, according to the Hamas-controlled Ministry of Health, figure that the UN considers reliable. / REL/
