A mother from Staten Island and her 20-year-old son, who was allegedly involved in a street racing accident in New Jersey that left a dead man 0 were caught last week while trying to escape the country, police said.
New York Post writes that Alvi Limani and his mother, Vilma Vneshta, 42, could not escape the law even though they went all the way to Miami to avoid a charge of serious murder for carelessness of the 20-year-old, who, according to prosecutors, completely destroyed his BMW X3 at Garden State Parkway on June 29th.
Limani and another leader at the wheel of a BMW M5 was making dangerous maneuvers at speeds toward the south, when Lieman's vehicle hit two other vehicles and rolled several times around 7:00, the Midlesex District Prosecutor's Office said.
Two passengers with him were thrown out of SUV, including Albion Hyseyan, 20, from Staten Island, who was rushed to the University Hospital Robert Wood Johnson and died, officials said.
Limani and another passenger, Emily Harrington, 19, from Staten Island, walked away, prosecutors said.
Limani and Vesti allegedly fled to Miami with the intention of leaving the US, but were detained by law enforcement forces near Miami on 17 July, the prosecutor's office said.
Exactly where they were arrested is not clear.
The mother and son were held in Florida for three weeks before they were extradited last Wednesday to New Jersey, with images published in TikTok that allegedly indicate the couple coming out of a plane with handcuffs in their hands and chains on their feet at a three-state airport.
The photos of the recording show Lima with a collar holder for her neck and a bruise in her eye, while the yellow hair, with its tail, looks at the camera with a neutral expression.
Both are in custody at the Midlesex District Correcting Centre pending detention hearings, New Jersey State Police said on Monday.
Limani faces charges of first-degree serious murder, vehicle murder in the second degree, escape from the site of his death accident, causing death during the suspended driver's drive and other charges related to the accident and attempted escape, prosecutors said.
The girls faced charges of obstruction to the third degree.
The other leader involved in the race, Jeter Ogando, 23, from Perth Amboy, New Jersey, was also charged with killing vehicles and other related charges, while Harrington faced charges of obstruction to the third degree, obstruction and conspiracy to jeopardise another, prosecutors said./Periscopi/
