This is not an isolated case, but evidence that the government is using institutional mechanisms to block the normal functioning of municipalities, executive director Sahan Ibrahimi has said.
During a telephone conversation with Mr. Bashkim Ramosaj, the head of the Decani municipality, the AKK has been informed that this impasse, in addition to the direct consequences on municipal services, is perceived as political action, as it occurs to a municipality that is led by a party that is not part of central power. These central-level actions are creating consequences as follows:
Citizens are being punished, making it easier for them to benefit from public services and investments. • hindering the realisation of capital projects, especially in a local election year, when municipalities must account for citizens.
They violate the principle of local equality and self-government, guaranteed by the Constitution and the European Charter of Local Self-government.
The Kosovo Communist Association considers this approach of government as unacceptable pressure on local government, which risks undermining the foundations of local democracy and creating a dangerous precedent for the future.
The AKK wants the Kosovo government immediately to remove the impasses and ensure the free functioning of municipalities so that citizens do not become victims of these actions.
