Ukraine's president, Voldymyr Zelensky, described his last call with US President Donald Trump as the best “conversation during this time” in his speech given tonight.
“Patriots are the key to defense from (raves) ballistics. We discussed several other important issues that our teams will work in detail at meetings in the near future”, Zelensky said.
The two leaders spoke on 4 July, agreeing to strengthen Ukraine's air defence amid intensified Russian attacks, Zelensky said earlier.
A day before speaking to Zelensky, Trump made a call with Russian President Vladimir Putin in an effort to discuss the outcome of Russia's war against Ukraine.
This was probably the best conversation in all this time, it was the most productive. We discussed the air defense topic. I am grateful for the willingness to help”, Zelensky said, describing his call to Trump.
Relations between Ukraine and the US have been strained before, as the White House urged Kiev to sign a lucrative bilateral mineral agreement and tried to broker a peace agreement with Moscow.
Zelensky's call with the US leader came after reports that Washington for a break-up military aid to Ukraine. Trump, on 3 July, denied Washington has banned the weapons supply for Kiev.
Trump described his July 3rd conversation with Putin as disappointing, saying the call “made no progress” in stopping Russia's fight against Ukraine, writes Kyiv Independent./ Periscope
