Democratic League of Kosovo MP Krenar Xhaferi has commented on institutional crisis in the country. He stressed that the problem lies, not in the lack of numbers in the Assembly, but in an exclusive political opinion installed by the current leadership, which, according to him, “does not recognise the language of co-operation, but in the division”.
We don't have a lack of numbers, but lack of will for cooperation. We have an authoritarian approach where a party imposes the agenda and ignores constitutional institutions”, Xhaferi said. He added that the LDK has turned to the Constitutional Court to clarify the legality of the move.
The MP argued that the court's decision is key to coming out of political stalemate. We're in a situation where the 30-days have passed and already feel the consequences. If the country goes to the polls because of its failure to comply with the constitutional deadline, then a dangerous precedent is set,” he warned, on RTK, broadcast Periscope.
According to Xhaferi, the country can enter an endless cycle of elections without reaching a real solution unless political approach is changed. If we go to the elections with this format, we get blockades again. Millions of euros will be spent without solving the political problem”, Xhaferi said.
He called for interparty co-operation, stressing that the open vote does not rule out the solution, as there is will from other parties to overcome the situation. “If one candidate does not pass, another may pass. The importance is to have the political will to move forward and restore the functionality of the” institutions, he said.
Xhaferi appealed that institutions and parties do not allow the country to continue in this permanently blocked situation. “should set a timeframe for solution. Kosovo cannot move forward with permanent institutional blockade”, he added. /Periscope/
