Singh, a British national born in India known as “Tornado with Turban”, was killed Monday when he was hit by a vehicle in Jalandhar district of the state of Punjab, reports AlJazeera.
Singh became an international sensation after starting to run long distances at age 89, after the death of his wife and one of his sons. He was inspired to watch marathons on television.
He had no birth certificate, but his family said that he was born on April 1, 1911. He ran full marathons (42 km or 26 miles) to the age of 100.
Singh ran into his last race when he was 101. There was a race 10km (6 km) in the 2013 Hong Kong Marathon, where it ended in an hour, 32 minutes and 28 seconds. /Periscope/
