In all, the pre motion votes were well below the two-thirds majority of the required vote for the initiative to succeed.
Von der Leyen, who was not present for the voting session, is safe at the moment. But the vote has undoubtedly weakened its position and has raised questions about its support for the agenda in Parliament.
The group of Socialists and Democrats called for a pledge in exchange for their support for the future long-term budget.
It's about a pledge that will be tested next week, when the European Commission's proposal becomes public.
Meanwhile, the right-wing Patriots for Europe and Europe of the Sovereign Nations, plus conservatives and Reformists, but few Euro-deputes from the left voted in favour of the motion.
Earlier, Von der Leyen himself had voiced opposition to the motion, saying his promoters were only Russian President Vladimir Putin's puppets.
Von der Leyen was placed at the centre of the criticism, especially for the handling of rightist parties, for ignoring important issues, and for the commission's direction extremely centralised and without transparency. /Periscope/
