During a joint media conference with his counterpart from Salvador, Alexander Hill, held in Ankara, Fidan said Israel does not want stability around itself and is trying to divide Syria through violent riots in the southern province of Suweida, where the majority is the drunk community.
“As Turkey, we cannot remain silent against such an action”, Fidan has said, stressing that clashes between woody and Bedouin factions could have been prevented only through a military intervention by the Syrian central government.
In July, there were clashes between Bedouine Arab tribes and armed wood bands in Suweida, south of Syria. The situation deteriorated on 16 July, when the Israeli army carried out attacks near the Syrian presidential palace and headquarters of the General Staff and the Ministry of Defence.
“We will consider it a direct threat to our national security and we will intervene if division or destabilisation” is tried, Fidan said, warning Israel.
Ankara has played a key role in establishing a ceasefire in Syria, following Israeli air attacks targeting Damascus, as well as the Suweid and Dara regions, with the reasoning of protecting the drunk community./Periscopi/
