Rescued persons had no visible injuries, the LAFD said in a statement, shortly after an operation where some of those blocked in the industrial tunnel were raised safely through the crane.
More than 100 employees of the Los Angeles Fire Department rushed to the scene in the town's Wilmington district to assist in the operation, including the Urban Research and Rescue teams, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said on the X show.
The blast occurred approximately five to six miles from the only entry point and tunnel exit and about 400m underground, officials said. The tunnel is part of a municipal project for sewage.
The stranded workers managed to climb over a clear mound of earth at an altitude of 3 to 4.5m to reach colleagues on the other side, preliminary reports show. From there, they were transported by vehicle to the entrance point, the fire department said. /Periscope/
