According to foreign media, Trump's comments were made after announcing that more weapons would be sent to Ukraine and toughened his stance on Russia.
His comments also come after the Financial Times reported that Trump had asked his Ukrainian counterpart if Kiev could attack Moscow if the US provided long-range weapons of action.
Speaking before leaving the White House earlier, Trump said that “would see what would happen to President Putin” after giving Moscow a 50-day ultimatum to agree to a peace agreement or otherwise, will face “heavy tariffs”.
