Trump: American weapons to be sent to Ukraine via NATO

Trump has said he will make a major “declaration” for Russia on 14 July. He has not provided more details in this regard, but he has spoken about sending weapons.

We're sending weapons. NATO, and NATO are paying for these 100 percent weapons. So what we're doing is that the weapons that are being launched are going to NATO, and then NATO will hand over these weapons to Ukraine and NATO will pay for these weapons”, Trump said in an interview for the American broadcaster NBC.

Earlier in the week, Trump said he would seek the launch of several weapons for defence for Ukraine, following negative comments by several members of Congress about the Pentagon's announcement on July 2nd, that some weapons would not be sent, following concerns that American reserves have dropped considerably.

Trump appears to have overturned that decision on July 8th, when he said that the United States would send weapons for defence to Ukraine as Russian attacks intensify.

He has also expressed anger at Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying he is considering the possibility of imposing new sanctions on Moscow.

Trump has said he is studying the proposal of senators Lindsey Graham and Richard Blumenthal for imposing sanctions and tariffs on states supporting Russia's war, and other penalties for Russia's banking system.

“I believe I will make a big statement for Russia on Monday”, Trump said during the interview.

Ukrainian President Voldymyr Zelensky has called on allies to use Russian “as for the reconstruction of Ukraine and has sought more weapons, investments and joint weapons production for defence.

On July 10th, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said he has repeated to his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov that Moscow should be more flexible.

The two diplomats have met in the margin of a summit in Malaysia.

“We need an action plan to move forward to resolve this conflict”, Ruby said, adding that the Trump administration has committed itself to the US Senate about what new sanctions may look like against Russia.

 

 

We had a very honest conversation. It was important”, Ruby said after the meeting at Kuala Lampur.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has said that Rubio and Lavrov had “genuine and substitute exchange of their views”.

Rubio has said that the Pentagon's announcement of sending weapons to Ukraine has been misunderstood, and that most American aid has never stopped for Ukraine.

He has acknowledged that Ukraine needs more Patriot systems, and that some are the available “in many countries in Europe, but no one wants to share with them”, so he said he believes the situation will change, REL reports.

He has said Russia has lost 100,000 soldiers since January, and that they have been killed, are not only injured.

Ukraine, according to him, has lost fewer soldiers during that period.

“If the figure is smaller, however it is significant”, it has stated, among other things, Rubio.

The war in Ukraine began on February 24, 2022.

The West has responded to Russia, striking the economy of this state with severe sanctions.
