So far, the Minister of Health of Thailand has confirmed that the number of victims has reached 12 persons a military and 11 civilians. According to him, a total of 35 people have been affected by the attacks, including injured and displaced, reports BBC.
Meanwhile, Thailand's Foreign Ministry has called on Cambodia to halt the actions it describes as serious violations of international law.
Thailand has warned that it is willing to intensify self-defence measures in case Cambodia's armed attacks continue.
Cambodia, on the other hand, has accused Thailand of overuse of force in Cambodian territory, naming Thai response as disproportionate and threatening to civilians.
Thailand has set up six fighter planes along the disputed border, and one of them has carried out the air strike in question, throwing two bombs on a target that the Thai army considers a military target.
Thai Army deputy spokeswoman Richa Suksuvanon has declared that “Airpower has been used against planned military targets”. As a result of escalation, Thailand has closed its border with Cambodia.
On the other hand, Cambodia's Defence Ministry has reacted sharply, calling the air strike a <x0-second brutal and reckless” to its sovereignty. The bombs have also hit a street in Cambodian territory, they say.
Tensions have increased since Wednesday, when Thailand withdrew its ambassador from Phnom Penhi and announced the expulsion of Cambodian emissar to Bangkok after a Thai soldier lost a limb in a mined area.
Thailand claims the mines were deployed by Cambodian forces due to an unresolved border dispute.
Meanwhile, Thailand has accused the Cambodian army of attacks with <x0 heavy subartier” on a military base and of hitting areas inhabited by civilians, including a hospital. According to her, military action has been carried out in self-defense.
Residents in the Suri border region have been evacuated to fortified shelters with concrete and sand. They include children and older ones who are taking refuge in the fear of further escalation of conflict.
