Following Malaysia's efforts, the leader of the regional bloc of ASEAN, the United States and China to bring both sides to the negotiating table, the leaders of the two countries agreed to interrupt the hostilities, resume direct communications and create a mechanism to implement the ceasefire, Reuters reports, the Periscope broadcast.
“This is a first vital step towards deespassing and restoring peace and security”, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said at a press conference accompanied by Thai and Cambodian leaders, after more than two hours of negotiations at his residence in Putraya.
The ceasefire talks followed a continuing effort by Anwar and US President Donald Trump's calls with the two leaders at the weekend, where he said he would not conclude trade agreements with them if the fighting continued. Both sides face a fee of 36% for their US goods, their biggest export market.
In a post at the Social Truth on Monday, Trump praised all parties and said he spoke to the leaders of Thailand and Cambodia and instructed his trade team to resume negotiations. /Periscopi/
