The United States is very close to signing a trade agreement with India and a similar agreement with the European Union can be reached, US President Donald Trump said in a radio interview at Real Americas Voice.
Asked about Canada's case, Trump said it was “too early to talk about this”.
The American president stressed that his administration is negotiating with trade partners to achieve more favourable conditions for the United States and to reduce the trade deficit. Talks are expected to be completed by 1 August, when tariffs for most American imports could be raised again.
We are very close to India and we can reach an agreement with the EU”Trump said.
Trump's comments came as EU Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic travelled to Washington on Wednesday to discuss tariffs, as an Indian delegation arrived in Washington on Monday for new rounds of talks.
The European Union has been tough, but now they are very good. They want to make a deal and it'll be very different from what we've had for many years.”Trump added.
Asked about the prospects of a trade agreement with Canada, which, like the EU, is preparing countermass if negotiations fail, Trump said: It's too early to talk about it. ”
He also said he was considering establishing a total fee of 10% or 15% for smaller countries.
The president had initially announced the introduction of 27% rates for Indian products on April 2nd, as part of a broader trade policy. Even though the tariffs were initially suspended until 9 July, the US later extended the deadline until 1 August.
Until recently, the United States was India's largest trading partner, with bilateral trade reaching $190 billion. Trump and Mode have set a goal of doubling this amount to $500 billion./Periscopi/
