Supreme Court after the government attacks: We continue our work despite trends to damage our image and stumble

Supreme Court Chairman Feyzullah Rexhepi announced he has held a meeting with EULEX chief Giovanni Barbamo. The latter has praised the unacceptable “” attacks and political interference with the judiciary.

“Mayor Rexhepi stressed the commitment of the Court leading and the entire justice system, to continue the work, despite attacks of tendencies by the Government in office to undermine the image of the judiciary and prevent its independent functioning, adding that state institutions are obliged to implement judicial decisions, as a condition for the functioning of the legal state”, the statement said.

Attempts for interference in judicial independence are deemed unacceptable by Chairman Rexhepi, chief EULEX, Barbano

The chairman of the Supreme Court of Kosovo, Feyzullah Rexhepi, has been hosting today's EULEX mission chief in Kosovo, Giovanni Pietro Barbano, with whom he has discussed the latest situation in the country, created as a result of efforts to intervene in the independence of the judiciary by the executive power.

Mayor Rexhepi stressed the court's determination to lead and the entire justice system, to continue the work, despite attacks of tendencies by the government in office to undermine the image of the judiciary and prevent its independent functioning, adding that state institutions are obliged to implement judicial decisions as a condition for functioning of the legal state.

Meanwhile chief of EULEX, Pietro Barbano, condemning the latest attacks, confirmed that they strongly backed the Supreme Court until the incumbent government's attacks deemed it unacceptable. According to him, the labeling and attaching of judges with names -- placing them at risk by any possible attack -- is unacceptable and unacceptable.
