“There are complete legal solutions to ensure the functioning of the public broadcaster and to prevent RTK's institutional collapse, which is currently in an alarming financial state. Any additional delay endangers not only RTK's constitutional mission, but also the possibility that hundreds of workers will be left without salaries, exposing them and their families to serious social uncertainty”. It says in the communique.
According to SPARTK, RTK has not been and is not a burden to the state, it is an irreplaceable state asset contributing to fair information of citizens, representation of all communities and strengthening democracy in the country. Failure to fulfil financial obligations to RTK constitutes a direct violation of the law and jeopardises its functioning of the only public broadcaster in Kosovo.
“SPARTK calls on all state institutions to address our legitimate and legal-based demands. We demand that RTK be treated with legitimacy, responsibility and meritisocracy as it belongs to an institution that serves public interest and citizens of all communities in the Republic of Kosovo. If by August 5th no boarding of financial means for RTK does not take place, the union will start the announced protests. At the same time, SPARTK will demand that coverage of any political activity by RTK be suspended and legal steps taken through court indictments against all responsible for the created situation. SPARTK remains committed to the protection of workers' rights and the public broadcaster's mission”, says the municipality of the Kosovo Radio Television Workers Union (SPERTK).
