Meeting in Odenplan Square in response to a call by civil society organisations, protesters urged the Swedish government to take immediate action to halt immediately war crimes committed by Israel in the besieged enclave.
Protesters later marched to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to convey their message more directly.
Australian activist Damian Ridgwell, who attended the protest, said the Palestine Action Group has helped organise numerous protests.
We are part of a global movement to fight against sinist genocide in Gaza and for a free Palestine. From river to sea, Palestine will be free”, Ridgewell said.
Aydin Amir Hashimi, Swedish activist of Azerbaijanian origin, said he has been targeted by the Swedish media for participating in pro-Pisas demonstrations over the past two years.
Hashimi, a civil servant, explained that because of his open support for Palestine ʹ expressed within the legal framework of freedom of expression in Sweden, the country's largest newspaper, “Dagens Nyheter”, has requested his dismissal, AA reports, broadcast Periscope.
“They are trying to intimidate civil servants and employers so they do not speak against the ongoing genocide in Palestine”, Hashim said.
But this will not silence us”, he stressed.
Underlining the importance of staying firm, he encouraged others in Sweden to resist pressure from the media and continue to exercise their right to protest. /Periscope/
