This is the first case of its kind in Kosovo and beyond, where a local national is held responsible for serious crimes committed abroad. Q KMT stressed that this act marks an important precedent at the national and international level, strengthening standards for prosecuting sexual violence during the conflicts.
In its announcement, the Centre has praised the commitment of Kosovo's Special Prosecutor and professionalism shown in dealing with a case of high international complications. Similarly, the Court has been commended for creating safe and sensitive conditions for the victims, who testified through video connection.
The CRC describes this decision as a testimony to the progress of criminal justice in Kosovo and a significant step towards maintaining the perpetrators of sexual violence used as weapons of war.
She adds that through membership on the global SEEMA network, it will continue its commitment to fighting sexual violence in conflicts and ensuring justice for victims. /Periscope/
